The story is about a small town boy with big dreams. He goes against his father’s will and follows his dreams of building rockets. The main character of the movie is Homer Hickam. His father is a superintendent in a coal mine. He loves his job and wishes one day his two sons Jim and Homer Hickam will join him. Suddenly it appears that Jim will get a Football scholarship for attending a college. Thus his father’s will go after Hickam. But he is interested in rocket engineering. This was the main climax. The film’s star, Jake Gyllenhaal, was 17 years old during filming, the same as Homer Hickam‘s character. In an interview in 2014, Natalie Canerday recalled that Gyllenhaal was tutored on set because he was still in school and taking advanced classes.
